Forum Rules
Purpose of the Halo Archives

"To be a reference site for all Halo related sources."

It is the intent of The Halo Archives to create a "reference site" where Halo fans can come and learn more about the Halo Universe by the resources we provide here. We link to other sites, forums, clans, mods and other files, and anything else directly Halo related. We do not function like a forum where the only way to gain these resources is through registration. We want to encourage people to learn more about the Halo Universe created by fans and by Bungie itself- registration discourages this for some. We have created support forums that you can access without registration, plus, we also link to other sites' help desks. That way, if you don't get the help you need from here, at least you know of a place you probably will. We do not host our own files here due to the fact that, like our services, the servers that host our forum on are free and have limited file storage space. We are open to registration, however, you will be classified as a "contributor" if you join our team. After meeting all the requirements, you will be able to post your own mods and files here. In a sense, all registered members are "staff". The more you show us you're interested in helping this site become a more resourceful tool for others, the more likely we will help you do that. This is a Halo fan site created to help tie together "the beautiful chaotic mess" created by us Halo fans, we're here to help strengthen the Halo community.

Please remember that we are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of The Halo Archives. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we feel determined that removal is necessary.

Posting Rules

1.) No cussing, period. This includes abbreviations. If you do, our word filter will happily remind you.

2.) Do not use excessive lettering and quotations in your post.

3.) Do not post anything that is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, s-xually oriented, threatening, or invasive of a person's privacy.

4.) Post a topic once (do not carbon copy topics)

5.) Though we do not set limits on bumping topics, please use common sense when you do- make sure you have something very important to say in case you make a bump, for example, over two months since the last post.

6.) Respect other people in this forum. If you have a conflict with anyone, be it staff or contributors, please email me and I will try and work something out. If it's a personal matter, do not discuss it in the forums; if it's over mod publishing rights, for example, that's alright.

7.) We love it when people advertise their sites here. However, if your posting non-halo related websites, please keep them in your signature, profile, or in the Off Topic Forum located in the Halo Archives Lounge. If you want to advertise for Halo sites, we'd prefer that you take advantage of our clans list and our Halo Sites resources.

8.) Signatures. Signatures are meant to help identify you and to express any brief information you want to tell people who view it. our size limit may be more strict than other forums, but we do this so that your signature does not inconvenience other people. The total height of your signature should not be more than 150 pixels high, this is including any text you may add. If you use too large of an image, our "sig image size regulator" will block your image. If you're using Firefox, you have the benefit of not seeing a signature that exceeds the 150 px height (some signatures will have lots of spaces in it, this can increase the height of the signature unnecessarily). The best ways to increase the content of your signature is by using the dohtml tags to make your images smaller and to separate the text and image(s) in your signature with two table columns. Ask in the General Support forums if you do not understand.

9.) If you're planning to post in our support forums for help, please check the "Answered Questions" forums first (they're usually located below the support forums). There may have already been a question similar to yours that got answered.

10.) Try to keep updates to mods and files in the same topic unless the mod is drastically different than the previous version(s)

11.) Profile images should be less than 600x600 pixels

12.) Do not post links to [PERMABAN!]ography or to sites that prompt an EXE file download upon entry. Consider this your final warning: doing so will get you permabanned with no chance of reconsideration.

13.) Do not post just for the sake of spamming outside of the spam forum; Spamming in this case refers to copying random text, creating a new topic, and posting it for no particular reason. You get 3 strikes, then your account is suspended for 30 days.

14.) In regard to Halo Trial, do not request for "other Halo levels" or for someone to make a hack to play Halo PC maps

15.) If you are an advertiser for an organization or company seeking profit, you may not advertise. If you create a spambot that harasses the H.A. on any occasion, consider your IP banned.

16.) Do not spam the shoutbox. Guest will get their IP's banned and will only be able to regain access by contacting halo_archives_staff@yahoo.com We have had too many spammers lately, and I have been forced to take more affirmative action against violators.

17.) Do not promote Xbox Live modding/[CHEATER!]ing/[CHEATER!]g. You will be banned for a month if found in violation of this rule. If you are merely asking questions about how to do so, don't. We will give you only one warning. If you continue to ask, you will be given 3 "warnings" and your account will be suspended for a week. We support Bungie and we believe that the only way to help stop Xbox Live cheating is by prohibiting any content in the forms of referring links or posts that promote it on this site.

Mod Submission Guidelines
For Mods to be accepted here, members must provide three things:
a.) a functioning link
b.) an accurate and informative description
c.) a screenshot

You may also add a video you made, but it is not required and it cannot replace screenshots. This is because some people have very slow modems and may become disinterested in your file before they can load it. screenshots are easy to take. for a tutorial, click here.

If you want to advertise your mod before it's released, click here.

The more effort you put in to advertising your mod, the more likely someone will download it. Please give your mods original and unique names. "my first mod", "experimental mod", "best mod", "fun mod", "multiplayer mod", "not my mod", "a mod", "cool mod", and so on... these names attract little, if no attention whatsoever to your mod; it also makes it harder for members and guests to quickly reference for mods. The title of your mod advertisement is what helps "sell" your mod.

Policy regarding modding Halo Trial

Halo Trial was created by Gearbox in hopes of getting people's interest in Halo. They wanted to show you the best of both (and the smallest) so that you, the skeptic, could decide whether or not Halo was your "thing". Modding Halo Trial naturally came after modding Halo, which was just fine.

Many of the creators of the mod tools such as HHT and Sparkedit (I'm sure) hoped that they could promote Halo PC even further by making modding exclusively for Halo. Monoxide C's HMT 3.5 allowed modding on both platforms because (I believe) he forgot to encode HMT 3 against modding trial. However, since 3.5 was redesigned specifically for rebuilding, both versions couldn't be used in Halo Trial to PMI (I believe). There have been at least two people who have hacked his tool and created a rebuilt mod. Using rebuilt trial maps and PMI'ing trial is alright with me as well. However, the second you start ripping material from Halo PC/CE or start ripping CE tags (with or without permission) by PMI'ing, that's where my support for modding trial ends. The reason is that these kinds of mods put something into the levels that isn't included with the free package Bungie sent out.Though I allow ripped material from Halo PC or CE maps, I will not support it. If Bungie request a ripped mod be removed from this site, I will follow through with it. If you have stolen CE tags without explicit permission from the creator, and the creator requests that your mod links/advertisements be removed from this site, I will follow through with it without hesitation. I do not care how popular you are or how well-known your mod is- if you violate an individual's or organization/business' copyrights, I will make sure that the matter is dealt with appropriately, at least at this site. Thanks for your understanding.

The rules may be updated from time to time so check back here once every few months.

I try to maintain a well-organized, friendly, and resourceful environment here. Thank you for your understanding! If anyone is found in violation of these rules, including an administrator, please contact me or post in the Suggestions and Complaints forum. These rules may seem strict, especially if you've never been to a forum before, but the rules that are made are necessary to make the Halo Archives a well-organized, friendly, and resourceful community. For those of you wondering how we deal with rule breakers, read below.

So far we've only had to ban spammers (either spambots, which are not human, or people who came here and saw a space to write out what was on their clipboard for no apparent reason at all), people advertising illegal sites, and drug/p-rnbots. We warn members several times before we suspend their accounts- usually accounts will only be suspended for several days. If you ever get your IP banned, the best step to take is to contact an administrator to try to work something out. Our staff consists of volunteers; hopefully you, like them, came here because you like Halo.

Remember that what you write most likely cannot be taken back. The forums don't consist of voices, but of words produced by them. Don't write what you'll end up regretting.
